Port Harcourt club donates books to Navy Secondary School

In a bid to improve reading and learning among students in the country, the Book Section of Port Harcourt Club 1928 has donated books to Navy Secondary School, Borikiri in Port Harcourt.

The Captain of the Book Section of Port Harcourt Club 1928, Dr. PRIYE IYALLA-AMADI said the aim is to revive the poor reading culture among children in the region.

Dr PRIYE IYALLA-AMADI said books are a source of inspiration and motivation for scholars around the world.

She told the students that education is their passage to a better life.

The Captain of the book section of Port Harcourt Club 1928 also listed 11 benefits of book reading as follows

1) Books help people to travel around the world in the cheapest way

2) Books develop people’s personality

3) Books bring out individuals writing talent.

4) Books do not require special skills to read.

5) Books are fruitful part-time.

6) Books increase readers comprehension

7) Books make individuals smarter and wiser

8) Books help and encourage people’s imagination to excel

9) Books inspire, motivate and build nations

10) Books do not require company

11) Books maketh a man

Dr Priye Iyalla-Amadi stated that good readers are good writers and urged the students to imbibe the culture of reading so as to become leaders of tomorrow.

She added that the book section will continue to create awareness on the poor reading culture in the country and noted that books are the only solution to the numerous challenges facing the country.

The Vice Principal Administration, Junior Secondary, Navy Secondary School, Port Harcourt, AFOGBA MABEL assured the members of the books section of Port Harcourt Club that the students will make judicious use of the books.

She said the school is committed to molding the students into better personalities that will become nation builders.
