Businesswomen in Rivers State have been advised to stop being technologically naïve and embrace current trends in information technology to expand their businesses.
This advice was given by the chairperson of Neca’s Network of Entrepreneurial Women, Rivers State chapter, Dr Njideka Ebisi while speaking with TPCN today in Port Harcourt.
Speaking on the essence of information and communication technology to female entrepreneurship, Dr Njideka Ebisi explained that women could take advantage of ICT to grow their businesses by sharing important ideas and experiences with their business colleagues on how they can take their businesses to the next level.
According to her, the reason why many women are not progressing and expanding their business is because of lack of information sharing, synergy and partnership.
She said that female entrepreneurs in Rivers State have what it takes to compete with their counterparts in other climes if they learn to explore the opportunities offered by information technology and sharing of ideas as well as training and retraining.
She explained that it was to bridge this gap that Neca’s Network of Entrepreneurial Women was formed, adding that the group has helped and empowered many female entrepreneurs with business ideas through seminars, workshops and training.
“We have over thirty members in Rivers State and many other women have indicated interest to join.
“It’s all about helping our members to come together and share ideas and experiences that will help them to expand their businesses.
“Nobody knows it all. But when we learn from one another, we expand our knowledge base and are able to channel it into our businesses.
“Women in Rivers State should wake up and do their business in a structured way, at a level where they will have opportunities,” she said.
Dr Njideka Ebisi said they recently organized a training for Rivers women in Port Harcourt, during which about twenty-five to thirty businesswomen were trained on how to take advantage of information sharing, value chain synergies and goal-setting to expand their businesses.
