Ogbakor Ikwerre gets new President-General

Prof Emenike Wami, on Sunday, emerged as the new President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre.

The new leader also promised to mobilize resources to tackle the growing insecurity in Ikwerre land.

Prof Wami, a petrochemical engineer, said that access to farm lands is becoming difficult due to insecurity and fear in many communities, adding that “Our first assignment is to seek ways of calling our youths to order”

While calling on all sons and daughters, as well as friends of Ikwere to come up with ideas on how to tackle the insecurity issues in the area, the President General also hinted on the need prioritise peaceful coexistence in Ikwerre communities and addressing cases of chieftaincy disputes in troubled kingdoms.

He said: “We can do better when we eschew hatred. We want to consolidate on what God has given to us, ensuring that our people are focused and pursuing a common cause, devoid of bitterness”.

“There have been challenges, but God has positioned us for greater things. I see us doing better than we have done in the past, if only the political class will allow the dream of our founding fathers to remain their focus. We cannot all share the same view politically but all must focus on the common good”, he stressed.

”I have been an active member of the organisation since my return, serving as secretary of OPA branch, and First Vice President at different times”, he explained.

The retired professor of petrochemical engineering, who succeeded Professor Chituru Simeon Achinewhu, former vice chancellor at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University, had also served as Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Graduate School respectively of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology.

He had also served as provost of the Rivers State Polytechnic, now Ken Saro-wiwa Polytechnic. Prof. Wami, who is married with children, hails from Rebisi in the Port Harcourt City Local Government area of Rivers State.
