The Rivers State Police Command has set the October 31, 2026, deadline for commercial vehicle operators in the state to adhere to the prohibition of unauthorized tinted glasses.
The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Assistant Spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, announced the extension of the deadline as the appeal by transport union leaders allowed for those using tinted glasses to get time to regularize their vehicles.
The Rivers State Police on Friday directed commercial vehicle drivers from using unauthorized tinted glasses, saying they should use the extension to remove tinted glasses and bring their vehicles to compliance with the prohibition.

It also warned drivers that appropriate enforcement measures and sanctions would be taken against individuals or vehicles found violating the ban from November 1, 2026.
The command directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to strictly enforce the prohibition and carry out detailed and lawful search of vehicles suspected of having unauthorized tinted glasses in accordance with the security lapses in the state.
It reminded Area Commanders and DPOs that tricycles also known as “keke” were prohibited from plying after 10 pm and should enforce the ban.
However, the police command warned its personnel against taking advantage of the enforcement exercise to solicit and extort money from those being checked or harass them in any way.
According to the statement, those found guilty of soliciting and extortion should be taken to task accordingly.
The command also urged transport operators to comply with traffic regulations and support the police in creating safe and secure Rivers State.
