Niger Delta youths set to explore export business

Kelechi Esogwa-Amadi

Niger Delta youths can now embark on export business and stop chasing politicians around or engaging in violence and criminality.

This is because they have been taught the rudiments of export business courtesy of a summit organized by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), on Wednesday, 26 June, 2019, Tagged: NACCIMA Youth Entrepreneurial Summit”

The programme, which had as its theme: Discovering Hidden Nigerian Markets For Your Business, was held at Ebitimi Banigo Hall, University of Port Harcourt, Choba.

During the summit, a lecture entitled: Export Opportunities for Youths, was made by Mercy Odibe of the Institute of Export Operations and Management.

In her presentation, Mercy Odibe defined exporting as the selling of products or services across a country’s national borders and in return getting paid in different currencies.

She listed the steps to identifying export opportunities as knowing one’s product, research study and knowing one’s market.

Speaking with TPCN shortly after the summit, Rivers State Coordinator of NACCIMA Youth Entrepreneurs (NYE), Adedamola Victor, said the essence of the summit was to empower youths of the Niger Delta who are struggling with their business with skills that will enable them to succeed

He said that over five hundred youths from different parts of the Niger Delta registered for the summit which he said was sponsored through donations from members, well-meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies.

According to him, the vision of the group is to create Nigerian billionaires every week, adding that youths should be taught how to key into the social media and use it to sell their products and services.

“You see, I’m a physicist. Every 500 years, the way human beings think differs. Now, the social media has come and we need to key in. You can sell your business through your phone. We want Niger Delta youths to understand that there’s a lot of money in legitimate businesses. They don’t need to be chasing politicians all around. That’s the essence of this summit,” Adedamola Victor said.

The Entrepreneurial Summit featured free digital skills training by NACCIMA Youth Entrepreneurs in collaboration with Google partners, Haptics.

During the training, Mr Promise Excel, a Google Digital trainer working with Haptics, taught the participants how they can open their own websites and use them to market their products and services in the global community.

He also taught them how to achieve traffic with the posts on their websites which he said will, in turn, attract more clients and demand for their products and services.

The trainer, who demonstrated to the participants how they can open their own websites and use it to sell their products and services, told them that for every website to be productive, it must be mobile responsive, which he said meant that the website must be accessed through mobile phones.

One of the participants, Prince Matthew, who came from Akwa Ibom to participate in the summit, said he learnt a lot from the training, such as how he can sell his products online.
