Elected representatives want end to insecurity in Ogoni

A forum of elected representatives from the Ogoni ethnic nationality has condemned the killing of a soldier and two civil defence personnel in Gio, Tai Local Government Area on Saturday night.

The slain personnel were guarding the Trans Niger Pipeline belonging to Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, when they were ambushed by oil bunkerers.

The forum whose members includes the senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district, Barry Mpigi, Dum Dekor, Lahteh Loolo and other representatives, in its meeting held at Koroma Tai in Tai Local Government Area on Sunday, 16th June 2019, came out with a communique stating that the present security situation in Ogoniland is highly condemnable, barbaric, inhuman and unreasonable.

The forum also condemned the unwarranted attack on military and Civil Defense personnel by unknown gunmen in Gio and B-Dere communities of Tai and Gokana Local Government Areas respectively, and the killing of innocent persons across Ogoniland while stating their preparedness and readiness to partner and give necessary support to the security agencies to bring lasting peace to Ogoniland.

The forum also urged security agencies to go all out to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly acts and bring justice to bear.
