Cultists raid Ozuoba community, destroy properties worth millions.

Suspected cultists, on Saturday, attacked Ozuoba community in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

According eyewitnesses, the cultists said to be members of the dreaded Deygbam group attacked the area with machetes and guns, and burnt down a parked vehicle while destroying another.

It was gathered that the attack sent fears down the hearts of residents.

They were also said to have met no resistance from security agents.

The reason for the attack is not yet ascertained, however, no one was injured during the attack that lasted for hours.

Sources knowledgeable in gang culture told theportcitynews that the cultists might be on a show of force to show off as no one was harmed during the attack.

It was also gathered that the attack later spilled over to Choba, a neighbouring town.

Past months have seen a rise in cult-related violence in the area, with the gang members forcing residents to remain indoors throughout the day.

Some residents have also forcefully relocated from the area over fear of being consumed in the violence.

The Choba police command in past months has carried out series of peace talks in a bid to calm the situation. However, the issue has since persisted.

The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, could not be reached for comments on the matter.
