Stakeholders cry out as insecurity looms in Rivers

Brave Dickson

Worried by the resurgence of violent crimes in some parts of Port Harcourt and its environs, some stakeholders have stressed the need for a robust synergy between the police and the public.

The Chairman, Port Harcourt City Local Government, Honourable, Victor Ihuwno through the Council Secretary, Dr., Ezebuwno Nyeche at an end of year thanksgiving party organised by the Elekahia division of the Police Community Relations Committee, said the police are in dire need of logistics and psychological support.

His words, “the police can not guarantee security without the assistance of the public especially the PCRC which is basically there to assist them. Though PCRC has done well in assisting the police to secure our state, it still has to do more”.

Speaking on the 2019 general elections, the PCRC Divisional Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Obi, warned youths to stay away from desperate politicians.

“For us in the PCRC, we will make sure we keep doing our best in assisting the police in areas of logistics. Violence does not pay and nobody should encourage it. We need peace in our dear state and the entire country”.

In a related development, the State Chairman of PCRC, Chief Casca Ogosu described the state as investors’ hub and warned the youths not to drive away investors with violence.

Chief Ogosu who made this known to TPCN shortly after his re-election as chairman in Port Harcourt called on political actors in the state to learn from the just-concluded state PCRC election which he described as free, fair and credible.

“I am using this medium to call on politicians to play cool and learn from our election. We decided not to campaign because we don’t want to heat up the polity.

‘Rivers State is ours and an election is not supposed to be a do or die affairs. We need peace and we will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure a safe Rivers state”, Ogosu said
