The Rivers State Council of Radio, Television Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria has elected new state executive members for a period of another three years.

The newly elected state executive members of RATTAWU are Lawrence Owhonda (Chairman), Kingsley Brown (Vice chairman), Jackson Ikpochien (Secretary) and Emily Tari-Emberru (PRO) among others.

In his remarks, the Chairman of its 18th triennial state delegates conference held in Port Harcourt Tuesday, Chinyere Igwe advised RATTAWU members to shun litigations so as to reduce animosity in the union.

He said, “litigations will lead to the judgment that will bring about victor/vanquish. At the end of it, enmity will increase. Please learn to adopt peaceful conflict resolution in settling disputes.”

In her goodwill message, the State Chairperson, Nigeria Labour Congress, Beatrice Itubo warned RATTAWU members not to elect betrayers into the leadership of the union.

“We have seen where we are having a meeting and someone in our midst through recording is linking our deliberations to Government House.

“They are the ones that are applauding a government that has refused to promote workers and pay pensioners who are dying every day. We don’t want such people in our midst not to talk of voting them into a leadership position of this union,”Itubo said.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after polling 37 votes to emerge as chairman against his closest rival, Suzzy Accra Jaja who scored 36 votes, Owhonda promised to build a secretariat for RATTAWU in the state before the end of his tenure.

He also promised to unite all aggrieved members of the union

Our correspondent reports that out of 15 contestants who took part in the election, four were returned unopposed.
