PH collapsed building: Judicial Commission of Inquiry extends submission of memoranda to Dec 19

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set by Rivers State Governor to investigate the circumstances that led to the collapsed of a seven-story building at Woji road in New GRA, Port Harcourt has visited the site of the collapsed building.

The seven-member Judicial Commission led by Justice ADOLPHUS ENEBELI was on the ground to see the collapsed building before they commence their hearing.

The Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry Justice ADOLPHUS ENEBELI said the visit is part of the terms of references establishing the commission.

The Justice ADOLPHUS ENEBELI also said that the commission has extended the deadline for the submission of memoranda from the public to 19th December.

He said that the aim of the extension is for everyone enough to gather materials to form the basis of their memoranda.

Meanwhile, one of the survivors of the building collapse, LIVINGSTONE SMITH who is now a volunteer helping the rescue team commended the Rivers State government for providing equipment and welfare packages for the volunteers on site.
He said that the volunteers did not lack anything since the rescue work began on November 23rd when the building collapsed.

Another volunteer working under the Ministry of Special Duties Osaruchi Charles said so far 31 persons have been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building while 15 people lost their lives in the disaster.

He stated that that the volunteers are helping the rescue team to get to the people that are trapped in the rubble.

Osaruchi Charles also expressed hope that they could still rescue more people and urge the families of those trapped in the inferno not to give up on the rescue team.

You could recall that the seven-storey building collapsed on the 23rd day of November 2018.
