Gunmen kill 3 at Alakahia Junction

Unknown gunmen on Monday night shot and killed three persons at the popular Jovit restaurant at Alakahia junction, in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers.

The gunmen who stormed the area at about 10 pm shot at their targets killing two on the spot while one died later in the hospital.

The victims identified as Divine Briggs and Progress were said to operate a sharwama joint at the entrance to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, close to the restaurant while innocent sells music and video CDs close by.

Although the cause of the shooting is not yet known, there have series of cult-related killings within the Choba-Aluu-Alakahia axis.

Eyewitnesses said bullets from the shooting had impact on metal rails and doors.

According to them, when they heard sound of the gunshots, everyone scampered for safety, adding that police didn’t respond to distress calls on time.

“We alerted the police but they came two hours later to evacuate the dead bodies”

This shooting is coming after unknown gunmen shot and killed a club bouncer in his family home in Choba on Saturday.

Scores were also killed in Aluu weeks ago in similar circumstances.

The police could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.
