UNIPORT dominates swimming and chess events at WAUG

The quartet of Daniel Anwuli, Abimbola Osunfuyi, Ikorogbudu Ugushida and Eugene Unwana of University of Port Harcourt thrashed their counterparts from the Obafemi Awolowo University 4-0 in round 2 of the chess event at the ongoing West African University games WAUG to take the top spot on the team table.

The victory put Uniport top of the table after two rounds with maximum 8.0 points, closely followed by the University of Benin with 7.5 points while the University of Lagos is on 6.0 points in the third spot.

AKSU, Niger Delta University and the University of Maiduguri are languishing at the bottom with no point so far.

In the female handball event, Niger Delta University defeated Bayero University of Kano 20-11.

In the Volleyball event, Bayero University Kano defeated the University of Uyo 22-3. UNIUYO players were drafted from their football team.

In the football event, Bayero University of Kano defeated University of Port Harcourt three two in their second group B match while Kano University of Science and Technology played out a two-all draw against Nasarawa State University.

However, University of Port Harcourt is topping the table in swimming event with 22 medals which include 12 gold, five silver, and five bronze medal.

The Nile University of Abuja is second with 5 medals with four silver medals and one bronze medal.
