The three suspects that were sentenced to death in connection with the burning to death of four undergraduate students of University of Port Harcourt have concluded all legal paper works to challenge the judgment at the court of appeal.
It would be recalled that Lloyd Toku Mike, Ugonna Obuzor, Tekena Elkanah and Chiadaka Biringa, popularly referred to as the “Aluu-4” were murdered by a mob said to be members of a vigilante group in Omuokiri Village in Aluu in 2012.
Delivering judgment, the trial judge, Justice Letam Nyordee, convicted ex-Sergeant Lucky Orji, Ikechukwu Amadi and Chinasa Ogbada for their active involvements in the murder of the four students.
The judge, however, freed Abiodun Yusuf, Joshua Ekpe, Abang Cyril and John Awuru, whose cases were not proved beyond reasonable doubts by the prosecuting counsel.
Counsel to the convicts, Kingdom Chukwuezie said soonest, the matter will continue at the appeal level, adding that the documents were complex and voluminous.
“We are ready to exhaust our rights to appeal. Though we filed outside the stipulated time being 90 days as stipulated by law, we, however, have substantial reason for doing so. We believe the judgement will be upturned at the court of appeal in favour of my clients,”Chukwuezie boasted.
