Fayose to submit self to EFCC for probe in October

The Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on Tuesday wrote the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of his accounts and also expressed his intention to submit himself for probe after his handing over.

Fayose, in a letter dated September 10, said he would report himself to the anti-graft agency TO “clarify issues or answer questions” within his knowledge.

Fayose is expected to hand over to the governor-elect Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

Fayose accused the EFCC of “several and serial actions including, but not limited” to the freezing of his accounts and attempting to “secure forfeiture” of his properties, which he said was indicative of Commission’s desire to have him clarify some issues.

“I wish to inform you that my term of office pursuant to which I enjoy immunity against investigation and prosecution under the above provision shall lapse by effluxion of time on Monday 15 October 2018,” Fayose said in his statement.

“As a responsible citizen of our great country who believes in the rule of law I wish to inform you of my decision to make myself available in your office on Tuesday, October 16th at 1 pm to clarify issues or answer questions within my knowledge.”

Fayose may be willing to submit himself after a gloating tweet that announced the imminent revival of a criminal case against him.

On July 15, the EFCC’s verified Twitter handle, @officialEFCC said the commission had dusted a N1.3 billion fraud case file against Fayose.

The tweet read: “The parri (party) is over, the cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken.

“Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biologival concepts Limited N1.3 billion fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon.”

However, the spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, a day after said the “purported tweet does not represent the views of the EFCC.”
