Manchester United are monitoring Nigeria international Calvin Bassey as they assess their defensive options ahead of a planned squad rebuild in 2027.
The Premier League club are impressed by the Fulham defender’s performances this season, with reports indicating that their recruitment team are keeping a close watch on his progress.
Bassey has established himself as an important figure at Fulham, where his performances and leadership have earned him the captain’s armband. The versatile defender can operate at both centre-back and left-back, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking defensive reinforcements.
His contract situation has also drawn attention. The 26-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2027, although Fulham have the option to extend it by a further year, which would keep him at the club until 2028. The London side are also keen to negotiate a new long-term agreement.
Manchester United are not the only club reportedly interested in the Nigerian. Inter Milan have been linked with a move, while Newcastle United, Everton, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also said to be monitoring his situation.
Fulham will be keen to retain a defender who has become increasingly influential in their squad, but interest from several clubs could make his future one to watch as the 2027 transfer window approaches.
For now, Manchester United’s interest remains at the monitoring stage, with no confirmed bid or agreement reported.
