A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Cynthia Chinenye Maduekwe, popularly known as CyanahPEN, has improved learning conditions at Community Secondary School, Obonoma, in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Maduekwe, a pioneer graduate of Petrochemical Engineering from the University of Calabar and founder of the newly launched EngineNews platform, initiated the intervention after discovering the poor state of classrooms, including damaged writing boards.

She reportedly sought assistance from the school principal, Local Government Inspector, and fellow corps members before reaching out to individuals and community leaders for support.

Her efforts attracted the intervention of Hon. Augustine Awoyesuku, who donated 12 new whiteboards, board markers, cleaners, and support for the payment of school uniforms, among other assistance.

The intervention has improved the school’s learning environment and encouraged former students and other well-meaning individuals to contribute to its development.

Maduekwe’s initiative highlights the potential of corps members to drive positive change in their host communities, while Awoyesuku’s support underscores the importance of collective efforts in improving rural education.
