Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has explained how he ended up joining Turkish second-division club Bursaspor after leaving Scottish Premiership champions Celtic during the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old enjoyed a productive spell at Celtic last season, scoring nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions and helping the Scottish club achieve domestic success.
However, his stay in Scotland ended after negotiations over a new contract failed to produce an agreement, paving the way for his move to Turkey.
Iheanacho has since made an impressive start to life at Bursaspor, recording 16 goals and three assists in 12 league appearances, according to the figures reported.
Speaking to Bursaspor TV, the Nigerian forward said he had left discussions about his future largely to his representatives and club officials while concentrating on his football.
“To be fair, I don’t talk about transfers. I really try to concentrate on my football. The transfer talks were done with the agents and directors,” Iheanacho said.
He explained that his agent informed him of Bursaspor’s interest and provided details about the club’s proposal before he agreed to the move.
“Of course, I am aware of the transfer talks. I don’t really know how they were contacted, but I was told by my agent that Bursaspor were in contact. He explained everything to me in detail. I was happy, and I said yes,” he added.
Iheanacho’s arrival represents a significant addition to Bursaspor’s squad as the club pursues its ambition of returning to the Turkish Super Lig.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City forward will be expected to maintain his scoring form and help the club achieve its collective objectives throughout the campaign.
