The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to publish the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections online following calls from Nigerians and other stakeholders for easier access to the document.
The commission disclosed this on Monday, explaining that the register, which was initially displayed physically at registration areas across the country from October 9 to 15, would also be made available on its official online platform.
In a statement, INEC Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the decision was part of efforts to promote transparency, improve accessibility and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
He said the register could now be accessed through the commission’s website at https://display.inecnigeria.org, allowing more Nigerians to check their voter information without having to visit designated registration areas.
INEC explained that the physical display was conducted in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, which provides registered voters with the opportunity to verify their details and submit claims or objections where necessary.
The commission noted that the online publication would complement the earlier physical exercise and give more people the opportunity to participate in the verification process.
It added that claims and objections submitted during the exercise were being processed ahead of the certification and publication of the final register of voters.
According to INEC, the final register is scheduled for publication on December 15, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring Nigerians that it would uphold the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, in its efforts to conduct credible elections.
