United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has launched a group-wide Climate Action Week to promote environmental awareness, encourage responsible practices, and advance sustainable finance across its African and international operations.
The five-day campaign, themed “Banking on Africa’s Climate Future,” reflects the bank’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its operations, customer engagement, and financing solutions.
The initiative began with the deployment of waste segregation bins across UBA offices and measures to reduce single-use plastics at its head offices.
UBA Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, said climate change was increasingly affecting daily life across Africa through rising food costs, growing energy demand and flooding that disrupts businesses and livelihoods.

He called for collective action by employees, customers and other stakeholders to adopt sustainable habits at work, at home and within their communities.
Alawuba also highlighted the growing importance of climate considerations to business resilience, risk management and long-term economic growth.
He said the bank’s Green Finance initiative was designed to support eligible businesses investing in cleaner technologies and sustainable operations.
According to him, the initiative would help strengthen private-sector resilience while creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth across Africa.
