Bayer Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes has addressed speculation surrounding Victor Boniface’s future, insisting that the Nigerian striker will get an opportunity if he remains fit and continues to work hard.
Boniface has reportedly expressed a desire to leave the former Bundesliga champions when the transfer window reopens in January, amid limited playing time this season.
Rolfes, however, played down concerns about the striker’s situation, saying his immediate focus should be on fitness and improvement.
“That doesn’t change Boni’s situation. He needs to stay fit, keep at it and improve, then his opportunity will arise. I’m not worried,” Rolfes said.
The Nigeria international spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen before returning to Leverkusen.
His future remains a subject of speculation as the January transfer window approaches, although Rolfes’ comments suggest the club expects him to continue working towards earning more playing time.
No official decision on a potential transfer has been announced.
