The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Port Harcourt has acknowledged growing concern over the recent increase in school fees, with some students reportedly facing charges above ₦150,000.
In a statement dated October 17, 2026, signed by Executive President Hon. Justice Adiele Aleruchi Azubiuke and General Secretary Comrade Awolayefori T. George, the union recognised the financial strain the increase puts on students and their families.
The SUG said it would engage the relevant university authorities, ask for the reasons behind the increase, and push for a fair and reasonable resolution.
It urged students to stay calm and united and to channel their concerns through recognised union platforms, reaffirming its commitment to protecting students’ interests and making their voices heard.
