Dr Sokonte Davies, a former political ally of ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Davies, a former governorship aspirant and founding member of the ADC, announced his return to the ruling party in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the decision followed consultations with his family, political associates, constituents and elders.
The former ADC chieftain said he had carefully considered the political platform through which he could best serve his constituents and contribute to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria.
In the statement titled, “Return to the Progressive Family: My Decision to Rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Davies said his decision was driven by what he described as patriotic conviction and a renewed commitment to progressive governance.
He said the APC offered the platform he considered most suitable for promoting national unity, grassroots development and economic growth.
“For me, this is a homecoming,” Davies said, recalling that he was among the party’s founding members and remained committed to its principles of democracy, social justice, true federalism, inclusive development and respect for the rule of law.

While reflecting on his time in the ADC, Davies thanked the party’s leadership and members for the opportunity to serve and for the relationships established during his membership.
He said his departure from the ADC was without bitterness, adding that political differences should not prevent people from maintaining mutual respect.
Davies pledged to work with APC leaders and members across the ward, local government, state and national levels, while contributing his experience and political networks to the party’s growth.
He also declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and expressed his commitment to promoting political stability and development in Rivers State.
The former governorship aspirant urged his supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while encouraging those who share his political views to join the APC.
Davies also expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a warm reception, and thanked APC National Vice Chairman, Chief Victor Giadom, for facilitating his return to the party.
He further acknowledged party leaders and members for their support and acceptance, pledging to work with them towards building what he described as a better Nigeria and Rivers State.
