Rivers United secured a comfortable 2–0 victory over Ikorodu City in their NPFL encounter on Sunday.
The Pride of Rivers took control of the contest early and were rewarded in the 19th minute when Samson Olasupo found the back of the net to give the home side a 1–0 lead.
Rivers United continued to dictate proceedings as they looked to extend their advantage before the break. Their pressure eventually paid off in first-half stoppage time, with Collins Ugweze doubling the lead in the 45th+1 minute.
The hosts went into the interval with a commanding 2–0 advantage.
Ikorodu City attempted to respond after the restart, but Rivers United remained solid at the back and managed the game effectively to protect their two-goal cushion.
Despite efforts from the visitors to find a way back into the contest, Rivers United held firm until the final whistle.
The result sees Rivers United claim a convincing 2–0 win, with goals from Olasupo and Ugweze enough to secure all three points against Ikorodu City.
