The Federal Ministry of Education has released its final list of ranked and approved textbooks for use in Nigerian schools during the 2026–2028 period. The announcement, made in a Monday statement by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, follows the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise.
This initial list covers textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1, and Senior Secondary School 1. According to the ministry, each approved title now carries a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code alongside details such as the title, author, publisher, and year of publication, to support identification, monitoring, and accountability.
The exercise was carried out under the leadership of Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with Alausa giving final approval to the list.

The ministry said the new QR tracking system marks a significant step toward tighter monitoring of instructional materials and greater transparency in how they’re selected, procured, and used, noting that generating and assigning the codes was part of why the process took additional time to complete.
The ranking exercise will continue in phases, with the next round covering Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2, and SS 2, using the same identification and tracking measures.
The ministry is urging publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies, and other stakeholders to reference the approved list when selecting and purchasing textbooks for the affected class levels, describing the initiative as part of a broader government effort to ensure students and teachers have access to quality, curriculum-aligned materials while improving transparency and accountability in textbook provision nationwide. It also called on all stakeholders to comply with the approved list going forward.
