Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, has restated his commitment to improving the education sector and ensuring better learning opportunities for children across the state.
Nwagor made the commitment on Friday, September 18, 2026, during a special reception organised in his honour by the Rivers State chapter of the Mangrove People Leadership Initiative (MAPLI) at Voyage Hotel, Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner described his appointment by Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a call to serve the people, promising to carry out his responsibilities with humility, integrity and dedication.
He said education was critical to the development of Rivers State, stressing that children should have access to quality education, safe learning environments and opportunities to develop their potential.
Nwagor noted that achieving lasting improvements in education would require collaboration among government, professional bodies, traditional institutions, civil society groups, private organisations and communities.
He thanked MAPLI for the reception and for its support during his tenure as the organisation’s State Vice Chairman, saying his new government responsibility would not change his commitment to the values of service, unity and development.
Earlier, MAPLI Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Dr. Adokiene Tam-Micah Igbile, described Nwagor as a humble and dedicated leader who had positively influenced many lives.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barrister Sunny Ewule, commended the Commissioner’s efforts in the education sector, while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Mina Tele Ikuru, expressed optimism that the sector would record further improvements under his leadership.
