Chibudom Nwuche, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the South-South Development Commission, has thrown his weight behind the Rainbow Coalition led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The Ahoada East born in the Local Government Area of Rivers State described the coalition as an important political move which will greatly expand President Bola Tinubu’s voter base for the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, “The formation of this political coalition is a bold and innovative political strategy by the former Rivers State governor which has created a necessary political link between various political players without the need for crossing the Rubicon and leaving one’s political home ground.”
In responding to critics who say that the coalition could undermine the president’s electoral capabilities, Nwuche countered this idea saying that having different groups join the presidential race only improves his chances of winning.
In the state, Nwuche denied the critics’ claims of the confusion that the coalition had caused in regards to the political direction of Rivers State. According to him, there is no confusion whatsoever regarding the governorship consensus candidate of the coalition.
Nwuche further stated that the coalition members are fully committed to the electoral success of Tinubu, the flag bearer of the governorship race, as well as the candidates running for the seats in the National Assembly and State Assemblies. He went on to say that this approach will set an example for the rest of the other states.
Lastly, he encouraged those opposing this idea within the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to focus their attention on criticizing Wike but rather on mobilizing the voters in the wards, local governments, and polling units.
From the perspective of the larger national picture, Nwuche encouraged Nigerians of different ethnicities, political inclinations, and religions to unite behind Tinubu’s continuity on the ground that the policy consistency is crucial for the realization of the gains from the reforms introduced by the government.
Notwithstanding the fact that these reforms have caused some suffering to the people, he urged Nigerians not to be fooled by the economic promises made by other candidates running for president, noting that Nigeria needs strong leaders and not those who were in the past.
