The Federal Government has released funds for the payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, CATA, to academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The allowance covers the period from January to August 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced this after inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.
Dr. Alausa said the payment was part of efforts by the Federal Government to fulfil its commitments under the 2025 agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

He explained that all federal tertiary institutions had been informed to begin payment to eligible academic staff.
The Minister also disclosed that steps were being taken to provide the corresponding allowance for non-academic staff, with funds expected to be released in the coming weeks.
He said the development reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of education workers, upgrading infrastructure and strengthening the quality of education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to implementing approved agreements and interventions aimed at improving the education sector.
