The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks across Nigeria as part of efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of police officers and their families.
The inspection covered residential quarters and other welfare facilities, with Disu interacting with officers and residents to assess the condition of infrastructure across the barracks.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the exercise identified key welfare challenges and infrastructure deficits requiring urgent intervention, rehabilitation and sustained investment.
Disu said personnel welfare remained a major pillar of the ongoing police reform programme, stressing that decent accommodation and functional welfare facilities were essential to boosting officers’ morale, wellbeing and operational effectiveness.
He assured personnel that the concerns and welfare needs identified during the inspection would receive appropriate attention.
The IGP said the exercise also demonstrated the Force leadership’s commitment to using evidence-based assessments to identify and address infrastructure gaps in police barracks and improve the living environment of officers and their families.
According to him, police officers who risk their lives to protect Nigerians deserve decent and conducive living conditions.
Disu added that improved welfare was critical to building a motivated, professional and efficient police force capable of effectively responding to its constitutional responsibilities.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to sustained investment in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems to enhance the wellbeing of personnel.
The police chief said the measures would also strengthen officers’ capacity to effectively carry out their duties and provide security for Nigerians.
