The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board has commenced the distribution of operational vehicles to the state’s 23 Local Government Areas, beginning with Degema.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr Chituru Adele, handed over a new pickup vehicle to the Medical Officer of Health for Degema Local Government Area, Dr Lolia Koko, at the Board’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Dr Adele said the initiative is aimed at improving supervision of primary healthcare facilities and enabling health officials to reach communities more effectively.

He explained that the programme also includes a maintenance plan, with vehicles scheduled for routine servicing every five thousand kilometres or every three months.
Receiving the vehicle, Dr Koko said transportation difficulties had previously affected the movement of health personnel and supplies to some communities and facilities.
She noted that the new vehicle would improve land transportation for supervision and healthcare activities across Degema, while pointing out that access to riverine communities would still require water transportation.
The Executive Secretary urged residents of Rivers State to remain patient as the Board works to improve primary healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across the state.
