The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple, has declared a renewed campaign against hard drug and alcohol abuse, warning that substance abuse poses a serious threat to the health, safety, and future of young people.
Pepple spoke while flagging off a Hard Drug and Alcohol Abuse Awareness Campaign organised by the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre (BIRC), led by its Chairman, Adawari Jumbo, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The campaign is aimed at sensitising residents, particularly youths, to the dangers of substance abuse while promoting prevention, responsible choices and early intervention across Bonny.
A major highlight of the event was Pepple’s announcement that his administration plans to establish a rehabilitation centre to support victims of drug and alcohol abuse in their recovery and reintegration into society.

He stressed that combating substance abuse requires a collective effort involving government, traditional institutions, families, schools, community organisations, security agencies and other stakeholders.
Pepple commended BIRC for initiating the campaign, describing it as an important intervention capable of contributing to the wellbeing, security and sustainable development of Bonny.
As part of the campaign, participants embarked on a road show and door-to-door sensitisation exercise across communities in the local government area, taking the anti-drug message directly to residents.
The organisers urged parents, youths, community leaders and other residents to take ownership of the campaign and work together to protect young people from the dangers and consequences of substance abuse.
