NNPCL Confirms Oil Resumption in Ogoniland, Says Ogoni Activist

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed the commencement of oil resumption activities in Ogoniland, according to the Leader of Ogoni Liberation Initiatives, Dr. Fabeke Douglas.

Douglas made the claim in a clarification issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, following his earlier statement alleging that oil activities had resumed in parts of Ogoniland.

The activist said he issued the clarification after receiving 23 written questions and several telephone calls from members of the public seeking details about his earlier claims.

Douglas maintained that he does not make public statements without evidence, saying his position was based on pictorial evidence and information he obtained during a meeting at the Rivers State Government House.

He explained that he was not initially listed among those expected at the meeting but was informed about it by what he described as a “patriotic son of Ogoni,” who encouraged him to attend.

According to Douglas, he initially faced resistance from security personnel at the Government House entrance, who questioned his presence and asked who had invited him.

“After a period of engagement, I was eventually granted access,” he said.

Douglas claimed that the meeting was presided over by a Permanent Secretary and attended by senior government officials and representatives of NNPCL.

He alleged that representatives of the oil company stated during the meeting that oil resumption activities had commenced in Ogoniland.

The activist further claimed that the meeting was convened to discuss the sharing of security contracts among Ogoni people.

He said he objected to the proceedings after hearing the alleged disclosure about the resumption of oil operations.

“Upon hearing this, I stood up, called for an immediate end to the meeting, and walked out,” he said.

Douglas also claimed to have personally visited some locations where the alleged activities were taking place, saying his observations corroborated what he said was disclosed by the NNPCL representatives at the meeting.

He, however, described his Sunday statement as preliminary, promising to release a more comprehensive account of the alleged oil operations on Monday, August 31.

The activist said the planned disclosure would include what he described as the facts and evidence available to him.

“This statement serves as preliminary information in preparation for our full disclosure,” he said.

He added: “The people of Ogoni deserve the truth, transparency, and accountability.”

The claims by Douglas regarding NNPCL’s alleged confirmation of oil resumption in Ogoniland are yet to be independently verified in the information provided.
