Liverpool Held to 2-2 Draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield

Liverpool’s difficult start to the Premier League season continued as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield, extending their winless run in the competition to six matches.

Both sides entered the encounter looking for their first league victory of the new season after disappointing results on the opening weekend. Liverpool had rescued a point against Newcastle United with a late penalty, while Forest suffered defeat at home to Leeds United.

Forest made the brighter start at Anfield and were rewarded midway through the first half when Dan Ndoye opened the scoring. Morgan Gibbs-White played a key role in the move, setting up the Switzerland international, who calmly found the far corner.

Liverpool responded with increased pressure and created several opportunities to level the score. Florian Wirtz came close on multiple occasions, including a goal that was ruled out for offside in the build-up. Matz Sels also denied Wirtz with an excellent save, while Forest came close to doubling their lead before half-time, only for Alisson Becker to produce a fine stop to keep out Igor Jesus’ effort.

Liverpool eventually found their equaliser shortly after the hour mark. Cody Gakpo created the opportunity with a low delivery across goal, allowing Alexander Isak to tap into an empty net from close range.

However, Forest quickly regained the advantage. Substitute Liam Delap’s quick throw released Neco Williams, who raced towards goal before being brought down by Alisson. The referee awarded a penalty, and Gibbs-White confidently converted from the spot to make it 2-1.

Liverpool continued to push forward and eventually restored parity with less than 10 minutes remaining. Víctor Muñoz produced a spectacular finish, firing a powerful effort that went in off the crossbar to register his first goal for the club.

The hosts pressed for a winner in the closing stages but were unable to complete the comeback.

The result leaves Liverpool with two points from their opening two league matches, while Forest will be encouraged by a spirited performance under new head coach Oliver Glasner, despite having to settle for a draw after leading twice.

For Liverpool, however, the early-season struggles continue, with the defending champions still searching for their first Premier League victory.
