The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urging citizens to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The minister said these values remained important to the country at a time when greater understanding and unity were needed.
He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, national cohesion and stability, stressing that maintaining unity was a collective responsibility.
Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to celebrate the religious holiday peacefully and with mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid.
He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across the country.
