African Ambassadors Golf Tournament to Attract 350 Participants in Uyo

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, has been confirmed as one of the high-profile guests expected at the League of African Ambassadors Fundraising Golf Tournament scheduled to hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Ambassador Ben Okoyen, said Enikanolaiye would attend the event alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and members of the diplomatic community.

Okoyen said more than 150 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament, while overall attendance is projected at about 350 people, comprising African diplomats, corporate executives, government officials and representatives of various agencies.

He explained that the tournament would serve not only as a sporting event and fundraising platform but also as an opportunity for networking, dialogue and the exchange of ideas on issues affecting Africa’s development.

“The aspect of interaction is more than the game. We expect far more than 150 persons. We are expecting in the neighbourhood of 350 or thereabouts,” Okoyen said.

He added that preparations were ongoing for the opening ceremony, golf tournament, closing ceremony, fundraising and award dinners, as well as cultural displays highlighting the heritage of Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, participants are expected to arrive on August 28, while the tournament will begin on August 29, with the finals scheduled for August 30.

Okoyen said the event would also provide an important platform for business leaders, corporate organisations and government officials to engage with members of the diplomatic community.

“Business leaders, corporate bodies and government officials will take advantage of the platform golf is providing to interact with the diplomatic community,” he said.

The choice of the Ibom Golf Course has also received commendation from stakeholders in the sport.

Chairman of the FCT Golf Association, Akabom Enobong, described the facility as one of the finest golf resorts in West Africa, citing its serene environment and suitability for high-level engagements.

He said the resort offers an atmosphere that encourages relaxation, strategic thinking and meaningful discussions away from the busy environments of Lagos and Abuja.

Okoyen said the tournament was part of the League of African Ambassadors’ broader initiative to promote solidarity, dialogue and the advancement of African interests.

Registration for the tournament and corporate partnership opportunities remain open. Trophies will be awarded to outstanding performers in various categories.

Participants will also stand a chance to win return flight tickets to destinations including London, Barbados and Ghana through participating airlines such as Ibom Air, Air Peace and Arik Air.
