Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne issued a strong message of purpose ahead of Nigeria’s high-stakes 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) zone-final clash against Cameroon on Sunday night.
The Everton legend declared that the group’s hunger for success remains absolutely insatiable, stressing that the players are fully focused on securing a place in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup by eliminating their arch-rivals in Casablanca.
After reaching the last four, the winner of Sunday’s West African derby will book an automatic qualification for the World Cup, setting up a blockbuster semi-final against tournament organizers and Morocco.

The journey through the Super Falcons’ group stages was not entirely seamless, as Nigeria finished second in Group C behind Malawi. However, speaking directly through CAF’s trusted portal ahead of the suit, Payne insisted that only the mentally tougher team is solid in the early setbacks.
“Everyone is confident right before this game. We have a huge chance to qualify for the World Cup,” Payne said.
“While we respect that we have had many demanding situations in the course of this event, these challenges keep us together for what lies within the future,” Payne explained. “I think we are also able to recognize the accomplishments that have been made. We are as hungry as ever.”
