Nigerian banks have reassured customers that their funds and personal information remain secure despite a coordinated global cyber campaign targeting organisations across several countries and sectors.
Industry sources said banks have strengthened their cybersecurity measures to guard against potential threats, stressing that banking operations and digital services remain fully operational.
According to cybersecurity experts, the attacks are part of a wider global campaign affecting organisations in banking, telecommunications, healthcare, energy, government and technology across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
International cybersecurity firm Check Point reported that cyberattacks on the global financial sector increased by 115 per cent last year, with financial institutions facing thousands of attempted intrusions each week. The latest campaign is believed to have targeted more than 35 organisations worldwide.
Despite the heightened threat, banking sources said Nigerian financial institutions have recorded no disruption to services or compromise of customer funds.

They noted that banks immediately activated their incident response frameworks and continue to work with regulators, security agencies and international cybersecurity partners to monitor developments and strengthen existing safeguards.
The sources added that years of investment in cybersecurity infrastructure have enhanced the industry’s ability to detect, prevent and respond to evolving digital threats, noting that effective response and resilience are key to combating cybercrime.
Customers were advised to remain vigilant by protecting sensitive banking information, including passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) and card details.
They were also urged to avoid suspicious emails, links and attachments, and to report any unusual account activity through their banks’ official customer service channels.
The reassurance comes as governments, financial institutions and businesses worldwide continue to reinforce their cyber defences against increasingly sophisticated digital attacks, with industry stakeholders maintaining that Nigeria’s banking sector remains secure, resilient and well-prepared to manage emerging cyber risks.
