Newly appointed Dean of Students’ Affairs of the Federal College of Education, Technical, Omoku in Rivers State, Dr. Innocent Abali, commenced his tenure with the inspection of the male and female hostels of the institution.
During the inspection on Monday, July 13, 2026, the dean assured students of his commitment to their welfare, even as he pledged creating a conducive environment for learning.
Abali who made cash and food items donations to some of the students who were present during his visit, tasked the male and female hostel occupants to maintain clean and hygienic surroundings.
He urged them to refrain from vandalising college property’s, stressing that his tenure would prioritize their welfare.
Being his inaugural day in office, Abali who was accompanied by leaders of the students’ union government SUG, and the students’ representative council SRC, held an interactive session with the students.
He emphasized his commitment to proactive leadership, noting that his tenure would give prompt attention to students’ needs.
Abali also reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a supportive environment for teaching and learning, even as he pledged better hostel conditions and security.

He encouraged the students to give adequate attention to their studies, maintain cleanliness, uphold good hygiene and safeguard college property.
Further, he revealed plans to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to improve security in the hostels and other key areas such as fumigation of hostels, clearing of bushes within the hostels, plumbing and electrical repairs, construction and installation of segregated waste management bins, and to carry out works on linking roofs.
Also, he expressed the acting provost, Dr Ndu Amadike’s readiness to wow private sectors to build churches, car parks, commercial banks, eateries and landscaping of the campus in order to enhance students welfare and comfort while living on campus.
Some of the students who spoke during the dean’s inspection tour called for his prompt action to address some of the issues affecting living in the hostels.
According to them, the dean needs to swiftly intervene inorder to improve accommodation conditions and other welfare-related matters.
The students commended the dean for the opportunity to engage with him, as well as his commitment to support efforts aimed at creating a peaceful, secure, and student-friendly campus environment.
