Following the consistent flow of water causing havoc along the Rumuokwuta-Ogbogoro Link Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, the Rivers State House of Assembly has called for immediate government action in view of the flooding and dysfunctional drainage system.
This request was made after an on-site inspection carried out by the House Committee on Works, headed by Hon. Dame Emilia Lucky Amadi, the Chairman of the Committee representing Constituency II of Obio/Akpor, in response to concerns raised by the residents of the affected area.
The visiting team, together with officers from the Rivers State Ministry of Works, examined the flooded area of the road at Akpha Rumuwokeada Community, Ogbogoro Town, in order to assess the situation and determine the necessary steps.
In her remarks, Amadi referred to the condition of the road and drainage system as a public emergency, imploring the Commissioner for Works to fast-track the process of improving the road and developing a drainage system in the area.
Amadi noted that the dysfunctioning road and drainage system continue to pose danger to lives and property within the locality.
Responding, Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, accepted the gravity of the situation and said even though there is no budgetary allocation for the work, a proposal had already been made to the government.
He promised that the ministry would give its due attention to the issue.
Speaking further, Hon. Ofiks C. Kagbang who is a member of the committee pleaded with the ministry to see the whole exercise as an emergency one so as to ensure safety of the residents and save from further losses.
