In another significant operational breakthrough, the Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested 68-year-old Mr Friday Tibi and his 36-year-old son, Oyabrade Tibi, over an alleged unlawful possession of firearms.
Friday and his son were arrested on Monday, July 6, 2026, by operatives attached to the Anti-Vice Unit, as revealed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Musa Mohammed.
They were arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Igbogene-Tombia Expressway in the state capital, Yenagoa.
The operatives recovered four single-barrel guns from the suspects during the search. This development was described as a significant breakthrough by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Iyamah Daniel Edebor.

The father and son are currently cooling off in the Bayelsa Police custody, as the PPRO reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crimes across the state.
Mohammed explained that “the operatives intercepted a tricycle conveying two suspects: Tibi Friday, ‘m’, 68 years, of Futoro Gbene community, Ekeremor Local Government Area, and his son, Oyabrade Tibi, ‘m’, 36 years old.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly travelling to Abua, Rivers State, when a search was conducted on the tricycle.
“During the search, four (4) single-barrel guns were concealed inside a sack and covered with sticks in an attempt to escape police arrest.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, for discreet investigation to ascertain the source of the firearms and identify any other persons connected with the offence.”
Further, the PPRO urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with credible and timely information to aid ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and security.
