In an effort to address the community’s long-standing water challenge, a serving National Youth Service Corps Member, Obot James Lukpata, has executed a borehole project in Bere Community, in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The project which was commissioned on Friday, July 3, 2026, by the Khana Local Government Chairman, Dr. Thomas Bariere Ariar, has given the people of Bere a major boost in access to clean and safe drinking water.
For years, many residents reportedly struggled to obtain safe drinking water, making the intervention a welcome development for the community.
The project was conceived after observing the difficulties faced by residents in accessing clean water. The intervention was designed to provide a lasting solution that would improve the health and wellbeing of the people.
Access to potable water is essential for preventing waterborne diseases and promoting healthier living conditions. The borehole would significantly ease the burden on families who previously had to travel long distances or rely on unsafe water sources.
In his address during the commissioning, Lukpata revealed that the project was inspired by the lack of access to clean water in Bere Community.
He noted that the project would not only provide access to reliable portable water but will improve public health and overall living conditions of the people of the community.
His words: “This project was inspired by the lack of access to clean water in Bere Community.
“I want to say a very big thank you to the Khana LGA administration and community leaders for all the supports.
“I also thank them for the peaceful environment in the area which made the successful execution of the project possible.”
Community leaders and residents expressed appreciation to the corps member for the intervention, describing the borehole as timely and impactful.
Commissioning the project, the LG chair who was represented by the APC chairman of Khana, Hon. Barile Ebenezer, applauded the corps member for facilitating the project.
He described it as a commendable contribution to the community development.
“This project, implemented under the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS), will provide residents with reliable access to potable water while improving public health and overall living conditions in the community.
“It is a commendable contribution to Community development.”
The commissioning was attended by the Leader of Khana 10th Legislative Assembly, Hon. Barr. Albright Gobari Deebom, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Khana LGA, Dr. Daniel Dorka, the NYSC State Coordinator, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents.
