Egbo Warns Against Sabotaging Road Project in Iwhrekpokpo

The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo, has stepped in to douse tensions in Iwhrekpokpo Community, urging warring factions to sheath their swords and embrace unity for the smooth take-off of the Delta State Government’s road project in the area.

Olorogun Egbo, who convened a peace meeting at the Council Headquarters on Friday, July 3, 2026, expressed dismay that a needless dispute over the appointment of a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) was threatening to derail a project residents had long awaited.

The Chairman disclosed that he had personally written to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, highlighting the deplorable state of 16 roads across Ughelli North and in response, the governor approved three roads for immediate intervention in the first phase.

The approved roads are: Robert Alum Road/Uloho Avenue, Olori Road, and Imoniyame Road with extension into Iwhrekpokpo Community.

Rather than rejoicing over the governor’s intervention, Egbo lamented, some community members chose to fight over who would clinch the CLO position.

“The Governor has demonstrated genuine concern for the people by approving these roads. This is a project that should unite the community, not divide it,” Egbo said. “I urge everyone to put aside personal interests and work together for the overall development of Iwhrekpokpo.”

Led by the community’s President, Comrade God’s power Owhe, the delegation thanked the chairman for his swift intervention and commitment to peace.

Comrade Owhe assured the Council Chairman that his community had resolved to bury the hatchet and support the project fully.

At the end of the meeting, the stakeholders unanimously adopted far-reaching resolutions including relieving the two individuals laying claim to the CLO position of the role immediately, pending the appointment of a new, generally acceptable liaison officer.

The community also agreed to formally apologise to the Governor over the misunderstanding and appealed to the contractor to mobilise the site without further delay.

Olorogun Egbo appreciated those who attended the meeting and reiterated that his administration would continue to promote peace and ensure that every community in Ughelli North benefits from government projects without needless distractions.
