HYPREP PC Visits Trainees, Reiterates Commitment to Human Capacity Training

The Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, on Monday, 15 June 2026, visited the Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic Skills Development Centre in Bori, one of the training venues for the ongoing livelihood empowerment programme targeting Ogoni persons living with disabilities.

Prof. Zabbey was received by excited trainees undergoing instruction in shoe making, fashion and designing, and computer basics, expressing satisfaction with the progress of the programme.

The Training flagged off in February focused on five skill areas for 300 Ogoni persons living with disabilities, which also included fish farming and photography.

According to HYPREP’s PC, the initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure that the benefits of the Ogoni remediation programme reach all segments of the community, particularly persons with disabilities.

He noted that the visit underscores HYPREP’s determination to promote inclusivity in the Ogoni clean-up exercise by equipping vulnerable groups with sustainable livelihood skills.

While at the institution, Prof. Zabbey paid a courtesy call on the Rector of Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Dr. George Chile Wadike.

The two leaders discussed ways of strengthening collaboration between HYPREP and the polytechnic.

Prof. Zabbey reaffirmed the Project’s readiness to sustain a partnership with the institution in human capacity development across Ogoniland.

He added that HYPREP project sites would remain open to students of the polytechnic for practical hands-on training.
