An enforcement exercise across the state, involving vehicles with registration number plates that are covered, altered, unauthorized, defaced, or missing has been launched in Rivers State.
This was stated by the Rivers State Police Command, adding that the initiative that was flagged off on Monday has been directed by the Inspector-General of Police with a view to denying criminals access to cover their faces from law enforcement through improper use of vehicle number plates.
The exercise is being conducted in Rivers State in accordance with the directive issued by the Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbenga Adepoju and the Area Commanders and DPOs have been mandated to strictly implement the directive.

As indicated by the Command Public Relations Officer, Blessing Kaborlo, vehicles whose number plates are covered, altered, defaced, unauthorized, or missing will be confiscated while their owners/operators might be charged to court.
However, this move taken by the State Police Command will go a long way in ensuring proper identification of vehicles for security reasons.
However, motorists and vehicle owners were advised to ensure that their registration number plates are properly fixed and not obstructed or tampered with to evade penalties.
This directive further warned that any officer taking part in the operation must carry out himself/herself in a professional manner and must not abuse his/her power by engaging in any acts of harassment or intimidation of the members of the public.
Any officer who is engaged in such misconduct will certainly face disciplinary measures.

Stressing its determination to uphold law and order, the Rivers State Police Command reiterated that it will continue to take proactive steps to ensure the safety of lives and property.
