Nigerian media personality, IK Osakioduwa, came out to address his reason for being absent from the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). His reason finally set an end to weeks of speculation among fans.
He revealed his reasons to netizens, during an appearance on The Morayo Show. The veteran broadcaster explained that his absence had nothing to do with any disagreement with the organizers of the show, as Africa Magic is the platform he has been closely associated with since the awards ceremony began in 2013.
According to IK, the decision was his personal choice rather than any problems with the organisers, as people suggested. He went on to describe Africa Magic as a brand he still holds in high regard and stressed that there was no bad blood between both parties.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be. Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there. I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition. I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition. I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed”, he stated.
The 12th edition of the awards eventually featured comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts, marking the first time since the show’s inception that IK was not at the helm of the event.
