Rivers United Technical Manager Finidi George has praised his players for their resilience after securing a hard-fought victory against the NPFL champions Rangers International in the President Federation Cup Round of 32.
This was an exciting game that people thought could be like the final game before the actual final.
No doubt, both teams that played were very good, they fought hard for the Nigeria Premier Football League title until the last day of the season where Rangers International won the title by one point more than Rivers United.
The Garden city boys were still feeling bad about not winning the title, they played a great game and eliminated Rangers International from the Federation Cup. Now Rivers United still has a chance to win a trophy at the end of the season.
The team’s Head coach in a post match interview Said he was happy with the result and how his team played. He also said that he liked how they played in the first half of the game. Finidi George is happy with Rivers United and their performance in the game, against Rangers International.
“We started the game well. We are happy with the victory in the first place. The first half was very, very good,” Finidi told reporters.
“We scored two goals. In the second half, I told them to at least keep the ball properly, defend well, and see how, after 20 minutes, the game will slow down. But yea, Rangers came back and they scored two goals.”
Rivers United was forced to dig deep, after taking control of the game early, as Rangers mounted a spirited comeback, turning the tie into a tense battle in the closing stages.
“It was a little bit scrappy in the last 10 minutes. At the end of the day, we got that victory. We are happy with it,” Finidi added.
“We are up next in the round of 16. We are happy with it and we will keep pushing to see where we end up, and I believe that we’ll win against Nasarawa United”.
