The Federal Government says it is intensifying efforts to strengthen the protection of children in Nigeria’s digital space amid growing concerns over cyberbullying, harmful content, and online exploitation.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this ahead of an invitation-only roundtable scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, in Lagos.
The meeting will bring together stakeholders from government, civil society, the technology ecosystem, academia, and the wider public to deliberate on the protection of children online.
According to the minister, the session is designed to explore practical and inclusive approaches to addressing risks faced by children in the digital environment, as internet access continues to expand across the country.
Key issues expected to be discussed include cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, online exploitation, data privacy challenges, and emerging risks associated with artificial intelligence tools.
The roundtable will also examine policy and regulatory options tailored to Nigeria’s digital landscape, with a view to strengthening safeguards that protect children’s rights while promoting safer online experiences.
Tijani said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to developing evidence-based frameworks capable of responding to evolving digital threats affecting young internet users.
The engagement is expected to produce recommendations that will guide future interventions aimed at improving child online safety and ensuring a more secure digital environment in the country.
