In a significant step to strengthen its academic governance, Federal University of Environment and Technology FUET, Koroma/Saakpenwa, in Ogoni, Rivers State, has inaugurated its Senate.
The Senate, which is the university’s highest academic body was established with the responsibility of overseeing teaching, learning, research, examinations and other academic affairs.
The inauguration held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, was described as a major milestone in the institution’s development as it continues to build its academic and administrative structures following its establishment.

University management described the inauguration as a reflection of the collective commitment of the governing council, management, staff, students, and other stakeholders to developing FUET into a centre of excellence in environmental science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development.
The institution also reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality education, promoting impactful research, and producing graduates equipped to contribute to national development and address global environmental challenges.
The successful Senate Proclamation is expected to further strengthen the University’s academic operations and support its long-term vision of becoming a world-class institution.
