The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, has secured a decisive victory in his ward following the party’s consensus primary.
Chinda emerged winner in Ward 4, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, after polling 1,405 votes out of 1,411 accredited voters.
The Returning Officer, Apostle Lucky Ordu, announced the result, confirming Chinda’s overwhelming support among party members in the ward.
Speaking after the declaration, Chinda expressed gratitude to party members for their support and confidence in his candidacy.
He described the exercise as a reflection of democratic principles and pledged to serve the people with sincerity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law if elected governor.
He also commended party leaders and other aspirants who stepped down for him, noting that their actions contributed to a peaceful and credible process.
Chinda emphasized the need for unity within the party ahead of the general election, stating that victory would require collective effort.
Meanwhile, reports from other wards across Obio/Akpor indicated that the primary election was largely peaceful, with significant voter turnout in areas including Wards 7, 8, 9, and 10.
In Ward 9, the Chairman, Dr. Ichenwo Glory, described the exercise as orderly and transparent, noting that party members turned out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.
He added that the process reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
Party stakeholders expressed optimism that the outcome of the primaries would strengthen the APC’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election in Rivers State.
