Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) is expanding its natural gas distribution network in Rivers State, as the company seeks to help businesses reduce energy costs and improve productivity.
The company disclosed this at a Business and Investment Forum in Port Harcourt, where manufacturers, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders discussed the opportunities and challenges around natural gas adoption in the Niger Delta.
SNG officials highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of using natural gas compared with alternatives such as diesel, while outlining opportunities for investment in gas distribution, industrial supply and power generation in Rivers State.
Speaking at the event, SNG Head of Gas Distribution, Chukwuka Amos-Ejesi, said companies that switch to natural gas could benefit from more predictable energy costs, improved operational efficiency and reduced exposure to fluctuations in liquid fuel prices.

The forum also featured representatives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Bank of Industry, Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce.
Stakeholders said wider gas adoption could help address persistent energy challenges affecting businesses in the region.
Idaere Gogo Ogan, Chairman of the Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture, represented by Board Secretary, Chief Solomon Edebiri, said more than 500 companies had shut down in the Niger Delta in recent years.
He said effective use of gas could help revive industrial activity and improve business operations across the region.
SNG also signed Gas Sales and Purchase Agreements with Boskel Nigeria Limited and Bluefinn Global Resource Limited in Rivers and Bayelsa.
The company said its expanding gas network is aimed at supporting industrial growth and strengthening the region’s energy supply
