The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially unveiled former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made through a post shared on the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, where the NDC declared Obi “unopposed” alongside a photograph showing him holding the party’s membership card.
Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party during the 2023 election, recently joined the NDC ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The party had earlier zoned its presidential ticket to the South, with Obi emerging as the party’s candidate after the close of nomination processes.
The development marks a major political move ahead of the 2027 elections as Obi returns to the presidential contest under a new political platform.
Obi has repeatedly stated that his political ambition is focused on addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, insecurity, unemployment, and governance issues.
He has also maintained that he would serve only one four-year term if elected president, a position he says is aimed at promoting equity and national unity.
The NDC, one of the newer political parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it is committed to promoting what it describes as “politics with a human face.”
Further details regarding the party’s campaign activities and presidential ticket are expected in the coming weeks as preparations for the 2027 general election continue.
